Mixed Martial Arts isn’t a Mix of just any style ...

Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Contact Striking – The Right Mix of Martial Arts.

Modern Mixed Martial Arts competition was invented in 1993 by Brazilian Jiu-jitsu practitioners in order to showcase their style as superior. Brazilian Jiu-jitsu was pitted against nearly every martial arts style and easily came out dominant, even over other grappling styles despite enormous weight differences. A 170lb Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (BJJ) practitioner wearing a Jiu-jitsu Gi named Royce Gracie defeated much heavier and accomplished practitioners of Judo, Wrestling, Submission Wresting, Karate, Kung Fu, Kickboxing and Boxing. When the point was made overwhelmingly and BJJ was proven to be the most complete singular style of martial arts, fighters began to realize that they had to know it to beat it. Promoters soon realized that they needed to add rules, time limits and rounds in order to attract an American public who was used to watching striking sports like Boxing; this in turn gave full contact striking arts a fighting chance. Arts like Boxing, Kickboxing and Muay Thai were then added to the training regimen of MMA fighters and what we now know as a complete Mixed Martial Arts program was born.

We aren’t a “Paper” MMA school and our program isn’t an afterthought.

When shopping around for the right MMA school, be sure to look at how long the instructors have been teaching applicable MMA styles. Are they long-time dedicated Black Belts in BJJ or did they just take a crash course so they could add it to their outdated curriculum? Our instructors are not crash course graduates or MMA/BJJ program affiliates who just hopped on the bandwagon and are now playing catch-up; we have been the Mid Hudson Valley’s source for over a decade. We have always been an MMA & BJJ school and didn’t have to change our program to fit a trend; while others were teaching forms, we were teaching students how to fight.

Look at the Accomplishments of the Student!

Of course your teacher is awesome … but what about you???

We are an MMA school and are dedicated to teaching and producing the best possible student, not to promoting the ego of one school owner. When colleges advertise to potential students, they talk about what their graduates have accomplished and their prestige as an institution is based on the success of their graduates. Why should it be any different for a Martial Arts School? Our primary focus is not on the traditional egocentric martial arts world; MMA has changed all of that. We are a Martial Arts Academy and feel that we are only as accomplished as the successes of our students.

Our Student’s Accomplishments are Our Credentials.

While others advertise or buy into the credentials of one instructor or association, we focus on what our students have accomplished and what we can do for you. Students who have trained at our school have gone on to win at the highest levels of the sport and our recreational students benefit from that experience. At NYMAG, YOU are the next big thing and your goals are what matter; this is the place you’ll train at to get there!
